Local information

This page contains information about the local amenities, activities and eateries easily accessible from the conference venue, for those occasional moments when you are not doing mathematics or attending conference events!

Getting to UWA

You will arrive at Perth Airport either at the domestic terminals or the international terminals, which are on opposite sides of the runway.

There are public buses (see also more info), but these will require changing and getting another bus out to UWA. Elizabeth Quay is a convenient spot to get on a bus to UWA.

There are also taxis, and ride-sharing apps.

Around UWA

This page contains information about the local amenities, activities and eateries easily accessible from the workshop venue, for those occasional moments when you are not doing mathematics or attending workshop events!

Morning teas and afternoons will be provided, but not lunches and dinners.

Watch out that Monday 25/09 is a public holiday, so most shops will be closed and some restaurants will have a public holiday surcharge.

There are a few cafes on campus: Reid Library, Hackett Hall, Science Library, Guild Village, see our campus map.

Other than the campus itself, there are three nearby areas in easy walking distance, each with a small selection of shops and restaurants, but enough to cover most requirements for a short stay in Perth.

  1. Hampden Road – A small strip with a number of restaurants, cafes, boutique-type shops, hairdressers, two chemists, a Vintage Cellars liquor store and a corner-shop style mini-supermarket with long hours and a wide selection (though high prices).
  2. Broadway/Stirling Highway – Located at the corner of Broadway and Stirling Highway there are a handful of cafes and restaurants (including the cheapest Asian take away around), a bakery, two bank branches (Commonwealth and ANZ).
  3. Broadway Fair – Located further along Broadway (away from Stirling Highway) and close to the conference venue, is Broadway Fair, which is a small but busy shopping centre. It has an IGA supermarket, a Post Office branch, a pub, a liquor store, a chemist, a hardware store, an Asian supermarket, a barber, a shoe repair place, and a number of cheap student-oriented restaurants.

A bit further

Other nice places to have dinner:

  1. A short bus ride away (950,103) is the City, for instance the very modern Elizabeth Quay, or the entertainment precinct of Northbridge has loads of eateries/bars.
  2. Taking the bus (102) in the other direction, you can check out the beautiful Cottesloe beach. Fish and chips watching the sunset is a must.
  3. Taking the bus west again (103,999), gets you to the nice port city of Fremantle, which has lots of restaurants.

All buses are along Stirling Highway.
